Remember the Gareth Southgate tube station renaming, and how there was a complaint about how much it cost — the details have been released.
Although it was reported recently that Visa stumped up £80,000 to sponsor the tube station renaming, Angela wanted to know how much it had all cost, and who authorised the expenditure.
A freedom of information request has revealed that the total cost for renaming Southgate station was £10,465.91 plus VAT.
Which is admittedly rather higher than I had expected, but still a modest sum for the amount of pleasure it caused.
Visa, the sponsor, picked up the bill for the costs with the exception of £600 which was paid for by TfL for photography and videos to support future commercial promotions.
The costs reflect, printing, implementation and removal. In addition, TfL confirmed that three employees worked approximately three full days on this project.
In addition to this, Visa then also paid an extra £80,000 partnership fee which covered the use of TfL assets and Intellectual Property.
From Visa’s perspective, this must have seemed like a bargain (in hindsight), based on the stonking amount of publicity that the renaming got in the media.
Wow 10k That is a lot (and a lot more than I suggested it would be in the original article) and no doubt some people like ‘Angela’ who complained will concentrate on that rather than the £70,000 profit TFL made.
Is there a link yet to the actual FOI reply?
Ive just reread the article and TFL actually made £80k because the costs of staff and the vinyls etc were paid by Visa separately so TFL got even more money than previously thought.
And not forgetting the lady who tore down the temporary sticker that caused such anger and outrage to us fans and people who congratulated Gareth Southgate for getting England football team to the Semi-finals who sadly got knocked out by Croatia and lost to France in the World Cup final. Hope she’s still paying the fines on what she did at Southgate tube station. Why would that lady do that and spoilt it for us.
