A display of award winning science photos has been blown up to billboard size and put on display along the Euston Road.

The 20th annual Wellcome Image Awards are a celebration of science, medicine and life.

There is a blurring in the imagination between a really close up photo of some part of nature, which when enlarged to hundreds of thousands of times its original size, can look like abstract art that would adorn the walls of a posh gallery.

This time the gallery are the windows of the Wellcome Trust. Note, not in the Wellcome collection, which is the public museum next door – head one block towards Euston Square tube station for this public exhibition.

A small sign below each of the huge images explains what they are of, and how they were made.

For a chance to win a photographic print of one of the images, vote for your favourite before 31 August 2017.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
