A total of 400 limited edition tube maps will be hidden around the London Underground on Saturday — the 114th anniversary of Harry Beck’s birth.
The maps are in fact “tune map”, commissioned by a group known as The Charlatans, who I am reliably informed are reasonably popular with the music buying public.
On Saturday (4th June), lead singer, Tim Burgess will be travelling around the London Underground, and dropping off little wallets containing the special tube maps.
The map charts the musical group’s output over the years, with stations on lines representing album tracks. Aeroplanes are tracks on imported albums, while closed tube stations are hidden tracks.
The zones might look a bit different, and that’s because they are a greyscale representation of the cover of one of their releases, Forever: The Singles.
And the Thames, it’s actually a chart of where each of their studio albums topped in the sales figures.
If you want one, look out for a blond headed chap dropping special Charlatan’s branded oyster card holders — and follow him on Twitter to get clues as to where they are.
If you cant find a map, and really want one, then the first 100 people into a performance at The Amersham Arms on Saturday night can also collect a copy. Although tickets to that are selling out sharpish — whether that’s due to the appeal of the musician, or the map, is probably dependent on how mad a tube geek you are.
UNATTENDED ITEMS WILL BE REMOVED OR DESTROYED BY A MEMBER OF STAFF OR POLICE
