Next month there’s a change for students and young people interested in railway careers to get a look behind the scenes at some of the industry’s sites.
Rail Week aims to address the skills shortage in rail-related roles and inspire a generation of young people through a series of events, visits and talks. The events for people at schools, colleges and universities aim to encourage them to consider careers in the industry.
Most of the events have to be organised by the schools/colleges, but some are aimed at individuals.
A few that may catch your attention in the local area include some visits to tube stations, a talk about the engineering of the upgrade programme.
Crossrail 2 has a presentation, as it’s likely that many of today’s school children will be the engineers of the next decade building the railway.
And while most need booking, one which seems aimed at everyone is an open day at the Three Bridges railway depot on Saturday 14th Oct.
Events are taking place all over the UK, and more are being added almost daily, so keep an eye on the Rail Week website.
