A new section has appeared on the Crossrail website with a load of sliding images letting you compare the construction site today with the Elizabeth line stations as it will be when finished.
It’s part of a section of new pages that have been published to mark the showing off of the interior of the stations as they will look when passengers first descend down to them at the end of 2018.
The five mined underground stations in central London – Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street and Whitechapel are the focus of the pages.
They particularly show off the Glass-fibre reinforced concrete linings that will become probably the most distinctive element of the tunnels themselves, curving around corners in a fluid manner most unlike previous tube stations with their rectangular tiles.
Of course, these new designs had to be tested, and a third page looks at how Crossrail developed and refined the design in a huge warehouse based near Leighton Buzzard.
Wow it’s really starting to take shape.
