TfL has confirmed the recently announced “Apple Pay” service will be accepted for payment from next month.

TfL was the first public transport provider to accept contactless payment cards and will be the first to accept Apple Pay. TfL developed the contactless technology needed to travel on its services in-house and over 100 million contactless journeys have been made on its services since it launched in September 2014.

One in ten contactless transactions in the UK are made on TfL’s network, making TfL one of the largest contactless merchants worldwide and over four million unique credit or debit cards have been used on TfL services so far. More than 1.2 million contactless transactions are made each day on TfL services – representing 17 per cent of pay as you go journeys.

The top five London Underground stations for contactless payments are Oxford Circus, Kings Cross, London Bridge, Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf.

Oyster will continue to be available, with contactless payments being another option that lets customers travel without the need to top-up their Oyster credit.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
