With frustratingly short notice – the London Fire Brigade has announced that it will open its museum this coming Friday to anyone who just wants to turn up and have a look.
The museum is one of those places that is normally closed to the public, unless they book a special tour, so this is a fairly rare chance for individuals to just turn up and have a look.
I’ve been before, the last time they held an open day, which was two years ago (told you they are rare!) and I think it is a very good museum indeed.
One shed has the scattering of old fire engines that will excite children (and some adults), but the building next door is the hidden gem of the site, as it has a whole floor devoted to the history of the London Fire Brigade, which loads of glass cases to peer into.
Entry to the museum (map link) is free and doors will be open on Friday 5th August between 10am and 3pm.

Activities
• The Brigade’s Schools Team will be talking to children between 11am- 11.30am, 12pm-12.30pm and 1pm-1.30pm.
• An instructor from the Brigade’s Southwark Training Centre will be talking to visitors between10.30am-11am and 2pm-2.30pm.
• The Brigade’s Fire Investigation Team dogs will making appearances throughout the day, along with their handlers.
