Hearts and Minds: the suffragists' march on London

The remarkable story of the suffragists’ six week Great Pilgrimage to London in 1913 is told by Jane Robinson, within the context of the suffrage campaigns. 

This lecture marks the publication of Jane Robinson's (@janerobinson00) 10th book Hearts and Minds. The Untold Story of the Great Pilgrimage and How Women Won the Vote. Drawn from diaries, letters and unpublished accounts to tell the inside story of the march, against the colourful background of the entire suffrage campaign. Hearts and Minds will be available to purchase and the lecture is followed by a book launch in the Library. It is the first event in LSE Library's series of activities marking the centenary of some women getting the vote in 1918.

Jane Robinson specialises in writing accounts of social history through women's eyes.

Professor Anne Phillips is LSE Graham Wallas Professor of Political Science.

The British Library of Political and Economic Science was founded in 1896, a year after the London School of Economics and Political Science. It has been based in the Lionel Robbins Building since 1978 and houses many world class collections, including The Women's Library.
