A day trip to Folkestone? To look around a train terminal? Sounds good!

In September, Eurotunnel will be opening its doors as part of the European Heritage Open Days, for only the second time.

On Saturday 13 September 2014, visitors will be taken on a guided tour of the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone (Kent). [map link]

Each guided coach tour lasts 90 minutes and offers an opportunity to find out more about the Eurotunnel transport system and its unique Shuttles. The tour starts with a presentation illustrating “20 years of the Channel Tunnel”.

Tours start at 9am and run on the hour throughout the day until 6pm. (50 places available per tour). Tours are free of charge.

Hat tip to SubBrit for the heads up about this.

If you can’t make it, there is also a Eurostar maintenance shed in London, which has very rare tours as well.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
