There was a chance the other night to take a brief look at part of the sealed off Olympic Park that is due to open to the general public on Saturday.
This is probably the part of the park that visitors will see the most often being between the main stadium and the shopping centre, rather than local residents who will probably come in from around the edges.
Basically, they have broken up the large empty plaza space by the stadium that was necessary for the crowds during the games into smaller spaces more suited to its lower key usage now. A lot of effort has gone into creating a park that is less traditional than most parks and more of an adventure playground type environment.
Probably great for families, if less so for a quiet walk along the canal. I also wonder how much effort, and cost it will take to maintain all these facilities. The long term running costs are not going to be cheap.
Diamond Geezer has done a lot more in depth reporting, so I will leave a few photos of the bit being opened on Saturday.
Only took this photo as the thing it is protecting, is a climbing wall.
London Underground roundel bins?
Of course, the main problem with the Orbit is that is damn near impossible to take a photo of the stadium from inside it.
I think it looks a lot like a blue whale, especially close up.
The new pool is very nice to swim in; at least, the training pools are – we went with the grandchildren a couple of weeks ago.
