Another Christmas morning spent cycling around central London devoid of workers, and for an hour or so, mostly devoid of tourists.
It’s as much the empty streets appeal for the eerie sense of sudden abandonment, it’s the silence that really captivates. Yes, there are some cars, and rather a few shop alarms beeping, but a city that is normally so noisy is, for a few hours as quiet as the countryside.
That is apart from Debenhams, and curiously, Bank tube station was still playing warning messages to the non-existent passengers.
And good luck to the two chaps I met at 7am in the city asking about the cycle hire, as they were trying to get to Barking.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE
This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.
It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.
Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

Amazing photos. What time of day was that?
…thought more cars (some may been cabs?) around this year than previous years, but that may just been me? FYI was around King’s Road/Piccadilly/Whitehall/Victoria between 8.00am – 9.00am. Also noticed that Westminster Council dustcarts/road sweepers were out on Christmas Day too!
