Bank branch passengers are warned that there’ll be fewer trains and Kennington station will be closed for around four months later this year.

From Saturday 26th May until mid-September, Bank branch Northern line trains will not be calling at Kennington tube station will building works take place to allow four new customer passageways as part of work on the Northern Line Extension.

Once complete, the passageways will make it quicker and easier for customers to change between different branches of the Northern line at Kennington, and will be essential for those using the new Northern line extension from Kennington to Battersea, which is due for completion in 2020.

The closure is due to the Victorian-era Bank branch platforms at Kennington being too narrow to enable TfL to safely complete this essential work behind hoardings while keeping the platforms open.

In addition to no stopping at Kennington, Bank branch passengers will also see fewer trains, as some trains are diverted via the Charing Cross branch. The Victoria line will also be busier as customers seek alternative routes.

Kennington station will remain open for the duration of the work, with customers able to board trains northbound, via the Charing Cross branch, or southbound to Morden.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

“will building works” should be “while building works”.

I don’t understand: How can Charing Cross branch commuters get home to Clapham, Balham, Tooting and Morden? Are those trains all continuing south?

  3. JP says:

I don’t think ALL trains will continue south of Kennington on the Charing Cross branch but the Morden trains will be more frequent.

  4. Geoffrey says:

TfL need to separate the two Northern Line Branch on the map by calling via Bank the “LOMBARD LINE” Colour Gold all trains going to Morden while retaining black for “STRAND LINE” for via Charing Cross some terminating at Kennington on the loop and most going to Battersea Both Colours used North of Camden Town junctions where having fully separate indications may reduce the changing at Camdem Town and Euston.
