McMafia: The Truth Behind the Drama

You may have heard about the BBC’s new hit drama, McMafia, which shines a light into a dark world of organised crime and corruption, and just like in real life - London is at the heart of it. As events like the Panama and Paradise Papers show, corruption is a timely issue.

With McMafia drawing over five million viewers each Sunday and the forthcoming Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Bill heading to the House of Commons in February, the public profile of corruption has been raised.

Please join Global Witness and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Anti-Corruption for an event exploring the real issues of corruption, money laundering, and anonymous companies behind the drama and how we can end London’s role as a safe haven for corrupt funds.

We will hear from a panel including:

James Norton, the lead actor in McMafia
Misha Glenny, author of the book on which the drama is based and Advisory Board member of Global Witness
Hoss Amini and James Watkins, the McMafia series creators
Ellie Nichol, Global Witness Anti-Corruption lead, who will discuss the issues raised by the show and suggest ways in which parliamentarians
