Was this the world's most fateful railway journey?
In Lenin on the Train, Catherine Merridale tells the extraordinary, gripping, funny story of Lenin's return from exile in Switzerland to war-torn revolutionary Russia, a last desperate gambit dreamt up by Germany to try to destabilise its enemy and win the war, and how it shook the world.
Catherine Merridale's books include Night of Stone, which won the Heinemann Prize for Literature and was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize, Ivan's War: the Red Army 1939-45, and Red Fortress: The Secret Heart of Russia's History, which won the Wolfson Prize for History and the Pushkin House Russian Book Prize.
Viv Groskop is a writer, comedian and BBC Radio 4 presenter. She is a regular guest critic on Saturday Review and Front Row. A fluent Russian speaker and former contributing editor at Russian Vogue, her latest book The Anna Karenina Fix: Life Lessons from Russian Literature will be published later this year.
Enjoy food and drink purchased from the Knowledge Centre Bar from 18.00 and after the event until the Bar closes at 22.00.
