In Norse myth Ragnarök is the end of the world in a huge volcanic explosion, as the sun and moon vanish from the sky and the earth sinks back below the sea. In this talk I'll be looking at the causes of Ragnarök and will be asking whether there's anything the gods can do to stop it. And if not, is there any consolation to be had in total annihilation?
Speaker, Carolyne Larrington, teaches medieval English literature in St John's College Oxford. She is an expert in Old Norse Icelandic & Arthurian Literature. This talk is a companion to her new book "An Introduction To Norse Myths" which will be available to buy on the night.
The talk takes place in the upstairs room of The Old King's Head (a place which appears mildly apocalyptic on occasion but is in fact rather nice)
Entrance is £3/1.50concs & you can pay on the door.
You can book in advance by emailing cunningfolkmusic@gmail.com
or roll up on the night & take your chances
