Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland asks why this has become the era of post-truth, how much Donald Trump is to blame, the danger this poses to democracy - and what can be done about it.

When it comes to questions of truth, does the media have a particular role in, and responsibility for, public education and if it does, what is it?

Join us at King's College London for an evening of reflection on the role of the media and public education in the post-truth world. Arrivals from from 5.30pm. Lecture from 6pm followed by drinks reception.

Jonathan Freedland is an award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster. He writes a weekly column for The Guardian and is the presenter of BBC Radio 4′s contemporary history series The Long View. He also writes a monthly piece for the Jewish Chronicle and is a regular contributor to a range of US publications including The New York Times and The New York Review of Books. In 2008 he was awarded the David Watt Prize for Journalism, having been named  ‘Columnist of the Year’ in the What the Papers Say awards for 2002, where the judges praised him for his “incisive, original, strong and very outspoken views”.
The School of Education, Communication & Society at King's College London has been at the forefront of teacher education and educational research for over forty years.
