Charles Dickens got to know the Southwark area during the early years of his life when his father was sent to Marshalsea debtor’s prison in 1824. Young Charles regularly visited him which sparked ideas and themes and inspired characters which would later reappear to colour many of the novelist’s best-known works.
On this walk one of Southwark Cathedral’s guides will lead you to some of the places associated with Pickwick Papers, David Copperfield and Little Dorrit. This tour lasts about one and a half hours.
