Description
This exhibition follows the challenging journeys of rehabilitation and recovery taken by soldiers who have suffered a life-changing physical or mental injury.
In recent times, particularly during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, major improvements in battlefield medical care have seen many soldiers surviving physical injuries that a few years ago would have been fatal. These ‘unexpected survivors’ have pushed the medical boundaries by setting high goals for themselves and their rehabilitation teams.
Soldiers who suffer from severe mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fight a different battle. Although much quieter and less obvious, their struggle is an all-consuming and often debilitating one.
For all who have suffered a life-changing physical or mental injury, the road to recovery is long, hard and often paved with setbacks. This exhibition explores the challenges soldiers face, the help they receive, and the resilience they need to continue on their path.
