Description
Two exhibitions at the Brunei Gallery in SOAS about African architecture, and reflections on global democracy.

Building Africa
An exhibition that explores the relationship between architecture and politics.
Curated by Prof Julia Gallagher and Dr Kuukuwa Manful, this collaborative exhibition showcases insights gleaned from a 5-year research initiative at SOAS, brought to life by design teams from Ethiopia, South Africa, and Ghana.
Living Democracy
What gives life to democracy? The Living Democracy exhibition at SOAS's Brunei Gallery explores the work of political representation in all its messy entanglements, including when the threads that hold it together start to break apart.
Since 2019 a team of ethnographers – anthropologists, political scientists, communications scholars, filmmakers and photographers – have been researching the work of parliaments and politicians in Brazil, Ethiopia, Fiji, India, the US and the UK. In this exhibition these ethnographers present fresh insights into the relationship between elected politicians and those that they claim to represent.
