Making Fashion Sustainable: Life Drawing with Morley College
In 2022, the UN noted the fashion industry is responsible for 8-10% of global emissions. Further research shows 43 million tonnes of chemicals are needed for production processes and synthetic materials require 342 million barrels of oil per year. How do we change this?
Following on from London Fashion Week, this workshop collaborates with Morley College students to showcase outfits focused entirely on sustainable fashion and designers. At this life drawing workshop, the designs will be modelled, and poses held, whilst you are guided through prompts for drawing.
Experimental Botanical Photography
Take the opportunity to experiment with abstract photography techniques using your smart phone to capture botanics, guided by our Learning team. Please tag @saatchi_gallery and use the hashtag #extractionabstraction. The most creative submission will receive 2 free tickets to the next Saatchi Lates.
To reduce waste at this workshop we are grateful to our suppliers Mary Jane Vaughan who have kindly donated leftover and waste flowers.

Poetry as a Response: Thinking Like the Romantics
The work of romantic poets such as Keats, Byron and Shelley were part of a collective effort to confront the Industrial Revolution. This workshop invites participants to engage with the work of Edward Burtynsky and explore the exhibition’s themes through poetic tasks and techniques. We will pause in between for the opportunity to share created works. Participants will be offered the chance to perform their writing to the rest of the group. No previous experience of writing poetry is necessary.
Film Screenings: Eyes to the Earth
Within the Learning Studio, we introduce a diverse group of emerging filmmakers whose compelling works converge on the themes of land, earth, environment, and nature. Through a personal lens, these short films explore the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural world, showcasing a profound commitment to environmental storytelling.

Threads of Change: Art, Conversation, Action
Edward Burtynsky’s striking images ask us what we can do collectively to confront the ongoing climate crisis. In an act of collaborative making, participants at this workshop are invited to create a large-scale artwork using recycled materials whilst openly discussing these global issues.
Rug making – here, Rag Rug making – has a strong history of being a space for open conversation and communion through the act of creation. We ask participants to consider what we leave behind, and how can we come together to create a better world.
Art from Nature: Dendritic Monoprinting
In this session, participants will have the opportunity to explore the remarkable natural forms and patterns seen in Burtynsky’s images using dendritic monoprinting. This technique involves the use of recycled and organic materials, to create your own piece of artwork. You will explore the natural and abstract forms that occur throughout Burtynsky’s imagery.
