Walk (AM): The Cato Street Conspiracy Set in its Historical Context

On 1 May, 1820, five men were publicly executed outside Newgate Prison for conspiring to destroy Lord Liverpool’s Government and to establish a radical parliament. Despite a powerful speech and moving song – ‘Death and Liberty’ – by two of the men, the crowd remained strangely silent and the men went to their deaths. Called ‘The West End Job’ by the conspirators, the plot became known as The Cato Street Conspiracy.
