Apple Day 2018

Borough Market’s Apple Day celebration will take place on Sunday 21st October 2018 in Three Crown Square, Green Market and Market Hall between 12-4pm.

As usual the schedule will be packed with activities for all ages, reflecting the rich heritage of the British harvest. Get stuck into a host of apple treats, try your hand at some traditional games, learn about endangered apple varieties or discover the art of cultivating orchards. Local theatre company, the Lions Part, will delight the crowd with music, songs, dancing, games and boisterous tales such as that of The Fabularium! Other entertainment will include conker competitions and Morris dancing.

As is tradition, Borough Market’s neighbour, Southwark Cathedral will kick off the proceedings with a short act of harvest worship in the Market, accompanied by the Market's choir. A collection will be made for the Robes Project, a local charity which provides winter night shelters for the homeless of south London.

Apple fans from the animal world will also be attending – including pigs from Hackney City Farm. No apple celebration would be complete without food, and chef Kathy Slack will be cooking up a range of delicious apple and harvest themed dishes in the demonstration kitchen, whilst Borough Market’s traders will be offering apple focused goods including apple biscuits, apple cake and cider from the New Forest.

In keeping with its commitment to the local community, Borough Market will also be donating a proportion of the pitch fee for participating traders to trader nominated charity, Lucy Brown House, a sheltered accommodation centre for older people.
