In this second event of the series, Chloe Lamford and Tom Scutt discuss their unconventional, sometimes radical approaches stage design for theatre.
An Associate Artist of the Royal Court, Chloe’s work explores how theatre can have different conversations with contemporary art practice. A frequent collaborator of controversial director Katie Mitchell, she regularly collaborates across art forms to explore theatricality, liveness and artificiality outside of conventional theatre spaces. An Associate Artist at the Donmar, Tom's work is at it’s most dynamic when bringing together different art forms, playing with the tension between perceived high and low cultures.
Though their practices are distinct, they share a commitment to subverting the traditional function of the theatre space and environment, and to demonstrating that these sets and structures can have meaning beyond the words spoken within them.
