Old Street station News

History of Old Street station

21st Aug 1986A burst water mains flooded the station on 21st August 1986, causing it to close all day and Northern line trains to run a shuttle service on either side of central London. A restricted service was restored the following day - but the escalators were expected to take about 10 weeks to repair.
Circa Dec 1971In the middle of Dec 1971, a third escalator was commissioned, as part of rebuilding works for the ticket hall. It was also the first Marryat and Scott supplied escalator to be used on the London Underground.
