SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you

Reading doesn’t seem to be in the sale at all and actually finding days and times when the cheaper tickets are still available is very hard, at least on mobile web.

I would classify this as bait and switch marketing (sadly I think this is not unlawful in the UK).

Not surprising that many tickets are now gone, as they’ve been on sale for over a week now, but I had no problems finding loads of tickets on sale to other destinations.

Just to point out Chiltern are also offering £5 tickets to Oxford and Birmingham (amongst other locations)… https://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/jan-sale

All very well for a single outward journey but return ticket prices are at normal prices.

Often with these sorts of offers it is worth buying 2 single tickets instead of a return.

What you can’t do with tickets like these is “stop short” (if a longer journey is cheaper than the one you want to make).

There are ways around that with extra tickets, some within the rules e.g. travelling on to destination and then travelling back on separate tickets, if cheap enough and you have the time, others not within the rules.
