An exhibition about fonts and typography has opened in Shoreditch, in an old hall that’s now a cafe.

The exhibition, Just Type by Trapped in Zone One features new works from 6 artists who have a long connection with letters in various forms and colours, including Boogie SML, Mr Cenz, Aches, Millsnic, Tarwane and Mr Christa.

As a display, it’s a mix of very obviously words rendered in artistic formats, through to some which are more street art than they are recognizably words.

They also come with price tags of the eye-watering variety, which is doubly disappointing, as one of the works rather appealed to me. The cafe sells much more affordable coffee, and you can sip that while looking at the art on the wall.

The exhibition runs from 29th March until 9th June 2018, in the upstairs section of Hanbury Hall, just around the corner from Brick Lane.

Opening times Monday – Friday, 8am till 5pm and Saturday – Sunday, 11am till 6pm.

SUPPORT THIS WEBSITE

This website has been running now for over a decade, and while advertising revenue contributes to funding the website, it doesn't cover the costs. That is why I have set up a facility with DonorBox where you can contribute to the costs of the website and time invested in writing and research for the news articles.

It's very similar to the way The Guardian and many smaller websites are now seeking to generate an income in the face of rising costs and declining advertising.

Whether it's a one-off donation or a regular giver, every additional support goes a long way to covering the running costs of this website, and keeping you regularly topped up doses of Londony news and facts.

If you like what you read on here, then please support the website here.

Thank you
