Join us for the launch of 'A Greater London', a new project to engage current campaigners on London issues with the story of the Greater London Council, 1981-86. Few people who have arrived in the city more recently know the GLC existed, and are unaware of how different it was to the current Assembly and Mayor. By capturing some of those stories - about cultural policy, about the Enterprise Board, and about its links to communities and social movements - we hope to inspire people to think more creatively about the possibilities of city-level democracy.
From 7pm we will be having a panel discussion with Ken Livingstone, Linda Bellos (and others tbc), about the impact and legacy of the GLC, which will be broadcast on Resonance FM. The rest of the evening will be more interactive, gathering memories and ideas from those who were politically active at the time, whether inside or outside the institution.
