Description
An exhibition of portraits and self-portraits by 22 of some of the most important and celebrated photographers in the twentieth century.
The show includes works by Margaret Bourke-White, Cecil Beaton, Walker Evans, H Adolf Bernatzik, Nobuyoshi Araki, Tina Modotti, and Arnold Newman among others.
Personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Roosevelt, and Mao Tse Tung are shown along with Andy Warhol, Federico Fellini, and the Nubas in Sudan.
The exhibition shows many shades, it ranges from subtle and intimate portraits such as “Bernice Abbott” by Walker Evans to bold yet intriguing images such as “Williem Kooning” by Newman. The exhibition is an invitation to explore the essence of each portrait from a reflective Churchill by Larry Burrows to the steady eyes of Bourke-White’s self-portrait.
