Description
The Queen’s long association with the Southbank Centre began when Princess Elizabeth attended the opening of the Royal Festival Hall at the Festival of Britain in 1951.
We look back at memorable events in our shared history: the naming of the Queen Elizabeth Hall; a coronation fashion show; a silver wedding anniversary tea party for 3,000 people.
Discover these extraordinary moments and find out more about what happened behind the scenes at the time.
On selected dates, you can get even closer to history. Encounter the ceremonial chair produced in 1967 for the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Queen’s entries in our visitors’ book and other Royal photos and ephemera.
