Description

As part of the changing foyer displays which celebrate the Barbican’s famous modernist architecture and design, The Fantastic Barbican World will explore Chamberlin, Powell and Bon's endeavour to combine spaciousness with high density development.

Starting from a 16 feet 8 inch model, the original plan comprised of over 2000 flats and maisonettes for 6500 occupants and aimed to create a large-scale residential and cultural landmark whilst avoiding the monotony associated with high density developments. Fourth in the series of displays, The Fantastic Barbican World includes a number of residential plans alongside interior images of the flats as they are lived in today.
