Join Judith Mackrell as she explores the lives of six wartime journalists and their struggles to overcome bureaucracy and prejudice while reporting from the front lines.

For centuries, war correspondence has been a vital factor in boosting or ruining the morale of nations. Journalists and reporters have often tried to get as close to the action as possible in order to give a true account of battlefield events.

In this exciting talk, Judith Mackrell explores the lives of six extraordinary women who not only faced the difficulties of reporting from the front lines of the Second World War, but also had to contend with stigma and prejudice.

Judith Mackrell is a celebrated dance critic, who has written for the 'Independent' and 'Guardian'. Her biography of the Russian ballerina Lydia Lopokova, 'Bloomsbury Ballerina', was shortlisted for the Costa Biography Award. She is also the co-author of 'The Oxford Dictionary of Dance'. Her recent research has focused on the lives of female journalists during the Second World War.
