What's On-Line is a series of free, pre-recorded online talks delivered by our experts, here at The National Archives.

Online Talk

Subsequent to the death of Oliver Cromwell in 1660, the restoration of Charles Stuart moved from a possibility to a probability. As political chaos engulfed England in 1660, the king secured his restoration to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland in return for a guarantee of stable government and parliamentary oversight.

Using The National Archives' unique collections, this talk will chart how Charles II secured his kingdoms and re-established himself and his government across the Stuart territories in 1660.

This talk will be presented by Neil Johnston, Head of Early Modern Records at The National Archives.
