The 24-hour city, powered by PechaKucha

This event has finished Took place on: Wednesday, 22nd May 2019

 Free

An evening of quick-fire presentations exploring the future role of culture in London’s night-time economy, part of NLA’s Culture Programme championed by Southbank BID.

Hear from a series of experts from the architectural, built environment and cultural sectors, as we examine the future threats and opportunities for London’s 24-hour city.

Are we building enough night-clubs, theatres and entertainment venues to keep London’s nightlife alive? How can night and evening spaces be better designed to integrate into existing and new areas of regeneration? What changes need to be made to London’s public realm and transport networks now to enhance a rich and vibrant night-time economy for the future?

The format, Pecha Kucha (ペチャクチャ), was devised in Tokyo in 2003 by the English architect Mark Dytham and has turned into a massive global celebration of design, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. The format makes presentations concise, keeps things moving at a rapid pace and holds its audience.
