For centuries ghosts have appeared in plays and poems, novels and stories, ballad-sheets and caricatures, paintings and photographs.
Susan Owens, author of The Ghost: A Cultural History (Tate Publishing) will describe some of the huge variety of ways in which Britain's artists and writers have presented ghosts, asking how their appearance and behaviour has changed over time. What do their shifting roles reveal about them - and us?
