The only surviving windmill in inner London. Built in 1816 and operated by the same family until it closed 1935. The free guided tours by Friends of Windmill Gardens connect you back into London's agricultural and industrial past.

There is also an opportunity to buy flour produced from organic grain sourced from near Lodnon on a fine Burr stone machine installed in the windmill in 1902. Try your own hand at milling on our hand driven stones.

The windmill is a hidden gem, a 15-minute walk from Brixton station up Brixton Hill, or near Blenheim Gardens bus stop on routes 45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, 250 and 333

They offer tours of the exterior and first two floors on a turn up and go basis.

Tours to the top floors must be pre-booked through the website.

Please note that the floors beyond first floor level are accessed by steep ladder-stairs, so there is a minimum size limit of 1.2m for small children.

Step-free access is available to the ground floor, where guides can give the full story without going to the upper levels.
