King’s Brazil Institute and Lex Anglo-Brasil invite scholars, practitioners and industry for the second edition of the ‘Seminar Energy and Infrastructure in Brazil’, to be held on 22 May (5pm-7pm) at King’s College London. This second edition aims to discuss trends and challenges of the renewables sector in Brazil, including market regulation and environmental requirements, as well as opportunities for cooperation between Brazil and the UK. The Embassy of Brazil in London and the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain support the event.

Munir Hassan (Head of Clean Energy, CMS London)
Munir Hassan has been advising the power sector internationally for over 20 years and heads up the active clean energy practice at CMS in London. He is a regular speaker, commentator and recognised international legal expert in the field. He is the editor of Wind: Projects & Transactions and Power: A Practical Handbook, both published by Globe Law & Publishing. Munir advises on all aspects of projects and M&A/financing transactions across the range of electricity generation technologies, from wind and solar through to biomass, wave, tidal, gas, carbon capture and storage and nuclear. He also has significant experience in the electricity sector of advising on or writing the rules for subsidy arrangements, wholesale market reforms, regulatory frameworks, privatisations, regulated electricity networks, independent power producer procurement programmes, emissions trading, EU law, grid codes, offshore transmission and connection arrangements.
Maria João C. P. Rolim  (Head of Energy at Rolim Viotti & Leite Campos Advogados)
Partner head of Energy at Rolim Viotti & Leite Campos Advogados. Lawyer and economist. Wide experience in the energy sector acquired in her practice for more than 20 years in the area, providing legal advice and representing clients on regulatory issues in the field with particular focus on renewables. Lecturer in Regulation of the Energy Sector at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and at the Brazilian Institute of Energy Law Studies (IBDE). Master in Energy Law (UFMG), LLM in European Law (LSE) and PhD candidate at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at Dundee University. Maria João Rolim holds an extensive list of publications in the field.
 
Larissa Verri Boratti (ILARRAZ Advogados and King’s Brazil Institute)
Larissa is the partner head of the environmental law and regulation practices at ILARRAZ Advogados. Larissa has practiced litigation and legal consultancy in the private sector for more than ten years, with a focus on environmental due diligence and compliance, contractual allocation of environmental liabilities, environmental licensing procedures, land-use management, and waste management, to name a few. She has particular interest in environmental regulation applied to sectors such as energy, agribusiness, and construction industry. She is also an active member of a number of professional and research organizations in the field both in Brazil and in the UK, and lectures on environmental law. Larissa holds a PhD from University College London, and is currently a Visiting Researcher at the King’s Brazil Institute, King’s College London.

Frederico is a barrister and has a broad commercial practice which focuses on international commercial litigation and arbitration across a wide spectrum of industry sectors, including banking & finance, corporate & M & A, commodities, dry shipping, aviation, upstream oil & gas, renewables, mining, infrastructure and insurance & reinsurance cases. His niche expertise in Lusophone and Latin American related disputes is well known and involves him in legal opinions on matters governed by English law, potential litigation in England & Wales governed by any substantive law and international arbitrations governed by a variety of procedural and substantive laws.  His ability to speak native Portuguese and knowledge of Spanish gives him a significant advantage over his counterparts.
