Overview
The emergence of the Precision Medicine concept is impacting how we address problems in patient stratification and care pathway management in the framework of a changing socioeconomic and public healthcare landscape. Metabolic phenotyping has emerged as an enabling tool in exploring, characterising, and understanding the dynamic interactions between our genes and environment (diet, lifestyle, microbiomes), and their phenotypic expression across diverse human populations.
The UK has been prominent in developing the field of metabolic phenotyping and has pioneered the application of large-scale metabolic phenotyping in epidemiology and clinical medicine.
The workshop will be a chance to hear leading academics in the field of metabolic phenotyping talk about profiling technology in various disease areas and how to incorporate it into research.
Why should you attend
This workshop is designed for clinicians, research nurses and other research personnel to:
understand the application of metabolic profiling to clinical medicine
be aware of the e-learning training facilities and support material
be able to design clinical studies that are appropriate for metabolic profiling analysis
Areas covered in the session:
The role of metabolic phenotyping in 21st century medicine
Introduction to profiling technology
Molecular phenomics of cardiovascular disease
Bioinformatics: explanation and details of resource available
Poster session where scientific and clinical users of the technology will be on hand for discussion
Metabolic syndrome and bariatric surgery
Personalised nutrition for improving CVD risk
‘Hands on’ session in study design and clinical application
