To mark the launch of his new publication 'The Gift of Anger', Southwark Cathedral is delighted to host this talk by Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.
Arun Gandhi shares ten vital and extraordinary life lessons from one of the most important and influential philosophers and peace activists of the twentieth century- Mahatma Gandhi, his beloved grandfather. Gandhi’s teachings are more vital than ever today, and The Gift of Anger places these lessons in a modern context, shedding light on how Gandhi’s principles can – and must – be applied to today’s concerns.
“We should not be ashamed of anger. It’s a very good and a very powerful thing that motivates us. But what we need to be ashamed of is the way we abuse it.” —Mahatma Gandhi
Gandhi’s practical philosophy of nonviolence helped liberate India and was the model for the advancement of civil rights around the world. Arun now applies this philosophy to modern events, highlighting how we have to stop fighting each other to effectively address the real dangers – mass shootings, lethal bombings, people being killed in cold blood – which are now part of everyday life.
Arun Gandhi is an international renowned activist, speaker and founded the M. K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence in 1997. He spent 30 years as a journalist for The Times of India, and currently travels and speaks at up to sixty venues every year, from universities to the United Nations. Further information can be found at his website http://www.arungandhi.org/index.html
This talk will take place in the elegant Cathedral Library and the doors will open at 6.45pm. The audience will be able to participate in a Q&A with Arun after the talk as well as a book signing.
