Much more than a nature reserve, it is not only steeped in local history, but is a location which has played a very important part in the development of London since the mid 19th century. Situated alongside the New River, a man-made aqueduct dating back to 1613, the 11 hectacre reserve engulfs a two hundred year old working reservoir rich with wildlife making a home in its recently enhanced reedbeds. Managed by London Wildlife Trust, Woodberry Wetlands is a sanctuary for a huge array of birds and and animal species such as damselfies, dragonflies, moths & butterflies, amphibians, fish, bats and Foxes and over 90 species of flora thrive at the reserve.

There are two Grade II listed buildings of particular interest standing on site, the Ivy Gate Sluice House and the Coal House which was recently subject to major renovation works to rescue it from the Heritage At Risk Register. The stories told by the surrounding developments themselves, make Woodberry Wetlands an absolutely fascinating place to visit. If you love nature & wildlife, the waterside, London heritage, architecture or simply walking in a beautiful setting, this riveting site tour is not to be missed.
