History of Brimsdown Rail Station

2nd Jan 2010Oyster Card readers came into use at the station on 2 January 2010.
Circa May 1969Electric trains replaced diesel locomotives at the station (and others along the line) on this day.
22nd Jul 1944The station was bombed on 22 July 1944, destroying the signal box.
28th Sep 1938Plans were announced to replace the level crossing next to the station with a road bridge - but they were not carried out.
Circa Jan 1899The signal box, supplied with 15 levers to operate points and signals was enlarged in 1899 to have 32 levers (and later at some date prior to 1928 expanded again to 42 levers)
1st Oct 1884The station opened on 1 October 1884, and services were operated by the Great Eastern Railway (GER).
