Belmont Rail Station News

History of Belmont Rail Station

19th Jan 2023Sutton Council was granted £14.1 million to add a turnback siding to the south of the station to increase capacity to allow four trains per hour to use the railway - double the two trains per hour the single line track can handle - the upgrade is expected to be ready by May 2026.
1st Jan 1982The railway was reduced to a single track in 1982, and now all trains use the former down platform.
17th Jun 1928The railway was electrified, with the first electric trains calling at the station on 17 June 1928.
1st Oct 1875The station was renamed Belmont on this day.
22nd May 1865The station was opened by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway on 22 May 1865, as part of the Epsom Downs branch line - originally called California Station
