History of Banstead Rail Station

Circa Oct 1982The branch was reduced to single track for most of its length in October 1982
Circa Nov 1981The Epsom Downs signal box was destroyed by fire in November 1981.
17th Jun 1928The branch was originally laid as double track to accommodate Epsom Downs horse race traffic and was electrified on 17 June 1928.
22nd May 1865The station opened on this day by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway as part of the Epsom Downs branch line.
