The Nature of Travel Writing - A panel discussion

This event has finished Took place on: Thursday, 18th Jul 2019

 £4

Join Seb Emina, Vivien Godfrey, and Nick Jubber as they consider what makes a good travel book and our relationships with them.

On the 18th July, we are delighted to host a panel discussion on the theme of travel writing and literature. This talk will mark the second event as part of The Library Project - a collaboration between Stanfords and citizenM London Bankside. The Library Project is a three month Literary Residency from June through to September, with a programme of events for book lovers and travel lovers alike.

The panel was selected to bring together a range of different perspectives on the many aspects that make up travel writing and literature, featuring: Seb Emina, writer and editor-in-chief of The Happy Reader; Vivien Godfrey, CEO and Chair of travel specialist bookstore Stanfords; and Nick Jubber, award-winning travel writer and author of the recently released Epic Continent, about some of Europe's iconic tales and his adventures amongst them.

The discussion will see Seb, Vivien, and Nick touch on the many intricacies of travel writing and literature, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. By bringing together their collective expertise of travel writing from creative, retail, and practical perspectives, the talk will touch on what constitutes good travel writing, to more light-hearted elements such as the seemingly abrupt rise of guidebooks surrounding Wild Swimming...

Whether travel literature is a passing interest or an inextinguishable passion, this will be an evening suitable for all; as our panel looks to explore a genre of writing that has always, and continues to, excite us.

citizenM have created a communal travel book library that charts a map of our timeless fascination with travel and exploration through the ages from explorations of classical civilisation to intergalactic travel. Guests and the public are free to browse the library, immerse themselves in the many books and awaken their wanderlust.

The Library Project has been designed to be a space that sparks inspiration, conversation and interaction.

Tickets £4 (redeemable against the price off one of the selected travel books on the evening).

The event will be in a private space at societyM on the first floor of the hotel. (Please ask any hotel ambassador to direct you).
