Westminster Abbey will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Sir Walter Raleigh with a day of events in St Margaret’s Church on Monday 29th October.
Raleigh’s body is buried near the high altar in St Margaret’s, and a stained glass window - installed above the west door in 1882 - shows Raleigh sailing for the Americas, his imprisonment and burial. There is also a memorial tablet on the south east wall of the church.
Join us for this symposium remembering the great Elizabethan explorer, courtier, writer and poet.
Lecturer: Dr Mark Nicholls, St John’s College, Cambridge. Co-author with Penry Williams of Sir Walter Raleigh: in Life and Legend
