Mars by 1980: The Story of Electronic Music

Music journalist and author of Future Days: Krautrock and the Building of Modern Germany David Stubbs is back chronicling the epic history of electronic music with Cabaret Voltaire’s Stephen Mallinder for Mars by 1980.

Following on from the critically acclaimed Future Days, Mars by 1980 is a tale of the mavericks and future dreamers, malfunctioning devices and sonic mayhem that launched the electronic music revolution. Encompassing the cosmic funk of Stevie Wonder and Giorgio Moroder, unforgettable eighties electronic pop with the likes of Depeche Mode, the Pet Shop Boys and Laurie Anderson, right to the present day innovators of the underground scene.

David will be in conversation with pioneering founding member of electronic group Cabaret Voltaire Stephen Mallinder. The event will be chaired by feminist music and film critic, and contributing editor to The Wire Magazine Frances Morgan.
