In June 1710 Handel had undertaken the post of Kapellmeister (master of the choir of the chapel) in the Electorate of Hanover ruled by the young Prince George.
Handel soon abandoned the post but within seven years he would be writing one of his most celebrated works, his Water Music, for the pleasure of the same, now as George I of England.
It is said to have been performed several times for the King and his guests.
This talk by historian and classical musician Dr Eugenia Russell places the royal service of Handel in the context of his wider compositional output, and of London landmarks.
The talk will be illustrated with musical examples.
