Description

Unequal Diameters is renowned Basque artist Ibon Aranberri’s first exhibition in the UK. Visitors to the exhibition will be met by an array of objects, films and photographs that recount and reconfigure half-familiar situations and forms, among them a mountaineering exhibition, drawings for trainee steel welders, makeshift urban security, and a habitat for bats.

Aranberri explores the relationship between nature and culture, and modernity’s failure to impose a totalising vision on the natural environment. Often drawing on specific political and cultural histories, particularly regarding Basque Country where he lives, his artworks evidence meticulous and associative thought-processes, and offer tantalising, open-ended puzzles to an active observer.
