Description
In 1832 the physicist Michael Faraday conducted an experiment using Waterloo Bridge. Using a wire that spanned the river, he tried to observe electricity generated by the river's motion through the Earth's magnetic field.
Faraday’s Synaptic Gap brings together the Poetry Library and the library at the Courtauld Institute of Art, on the north bank of the Thames. Rick Myers’ new exhibition reconsiders the neurological, material, and poetic aspects of Faraday's experiment.
The exhibition includes Myers’ previous work, as well as Sentences in a Synapse Field, a new video installation comprising a two-channel phonetic sound text.
In addition, audience members can immerse themselves in Faraday’s thinking through an an audio work for headphones. This work can be listened to while walking across Waterloo Bridge, to poetically link the two locations of the exhibition.
