Speakers

The Thistle and the Rose: the extraordinary life of Margaret Tudor, Queen of Scots, Dr Linda Porter

Dr Linda Porter is the critically acclaimed author of five books on the Tudors and Stuarts. She was also the historical consultant on Lucy Worsley's BBC1 series, Six Wives, and is currently working as a consultant for a major new Tudor documentary for BBC2.

The Two Marys: Mary I of England and Mary of Guise, Melita Thomas

Melita Thomas has a Master's in Historical Research from the Institute of Historical Research and is currently a doctoral candidate at University College London, working on the social and political networks of Mary I. She is the author of history books The King's Pearl and The House of Grey, and a co-founder of and principal content writer for the popular Tudor Times website.

Rival Queens: Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, Professor Sue Doran

Susan Doran is Professor of Early Modern British History at the University of Oxford. She has a substantial publishing record which reflects a particular interest in the religious and political history of the Tudors, especially Elizabeth I. She is also a Senior Research Fellow at Jesus College and Director of Studies in History at Regent’s Park College.

James VI and I and the coming of the Stuart dynasty to England, Dr Steven Veerapen

Steven Veerapen was born in Glasgow to a Scottish mother and a Mauritian father and raised in Paisley. Pursuing an interest in the sixteenth century, he was awarded a first-class Honours degree in English, focussing his dissertation on representations of Henry VIII’s six wives.

This event will take place in the Cathedral Library with doors opening at 10.15am. This event is in-person only and will not be streamed or recorded.

There will be a 1 hour lunch break at 12.30pm.
