Inclusive Spaces: Exploring gender inequality in the built environment

Join Sherin as recounts her experiences in a male-dominated industry, both at The Bartlett and in her professional career. Sherin will highlight the systematic issues that she witnessed along the way, both in how architects are taught and regulated from educational institutes to the wider industry.

This session will explore instances of gender inequality, the multiple ways they can manifest themselves and how we, as a community, can work to change the way we think and act to influence change. Sherin will discuss how we can challenge and do the work to signal the intolerance of discriminatory behaviour and spark helpful conversations.

She will then explore how further developments, such as flexible working, which has been proved possible during the pandemic, can change the workplace, and make it more inclusive for women and consolidate the idea the industry needs to change, not women.
